Community Gardens

Community Gardens tours Belfast’s urban growing projects, hosted by Caroline Magowan. Each episode visits a different site, meeting the people who tend them and discovering how green spaces bring communities together.

The series covers Peas Park in north Belfast, Donegall Pass (where Caroline meets growers Maz, Clive and Noreen), Meanwhile Garden at Connswater on the Newtownards Road, Miracle Way in the Lower Ormeau, Grow Waterworks, and Ashfield Boys’ High School. Across these six stops, the programme showcases everything from pocket parks to school gardens.

It’s part travelogue, part profile – showing how residents are transforming underused land into productive, social spaces. Whether feeding families, building skills or simply creating somewhere to gather, these gardens demonstrate what’s possible when people work with the land in their neighbourhood.
