Series:

History Now

History Now brings together academics, writers and cultural figures to examine historical themes and their contemporary resonances. Episodes span Irish history – the Treaty, civil war and revolutionary memoirs – alongside international perspectives including Stalin’s enduring influence on modern Russia and the contested memory of the Alamo.

The series also explores cultural biography and social history through episodes on playwright Brendan Behan, singer Eddi Reader, and Belfast’s Falls Road community. Scholarly guests include Dr Alexander Titov, Dr Darragh Gannon, Dr Nik Ribianszky and Francesca Stavrakopoulou, while broader questions arise in discussions of archival memory, theatre, gender and violence in Natchez, and John Barry’s critique of economic growth narratives.

Writer Philip Orr talks about his memoir The Illustrated History of Flight.
