smART

smART documents hands‑on creative workshops across Belfast community centres and youth organisations.

Traditional crafts feature strongly: blacksmithing, glassmaking, bronze and stone sculpture, ceramics, willowcraft, felt work, Irish hurl making, and woodwork. Contemporary practices include graffiti, murals, mosaics, screen printing, monoprinting, digital photo manipulation, stop‑motion animation and sustainable fashion. The series also covers performance‑related skills such as Bollywood dance, percussion, musical composition, mehndi art and special‑effects makeup. Episodes connect with specific venues including Nubia Youth Centre, Ardmonagh Family Centre and the Street Beat Youth Project, showing how creative practice engages young people and community groups.

It’s a practical showcase of Belfast’s maker culture – demonstrating processes rather than finished pieces, and highlighting how art education reaches diverse audiences across the city.
