The Jigs & The Reels presents live sessions from traditional Irish musicians. The series ran between March 2017 and March 2024, with programmes recorded both in the NVTV studio and at Belfast’s Duncairn Centre for Culture and Arts.
Performers span generations of Irish music. Harry Bradley appears with Brendan O’Hare and Seamus O’Kane; Aoife Scott performs at the Duncairn; Brendán Quinn joins Ciara Maguire and Francis McIlduff for a studio session. Other episodes feature bands including Dúchas, Eriu, Réalta, and Good Morning to Your Nightcap, alongside tributes to musician Seán McGuire and a profile of Seefin. The Friel Sisters close out the documented episodes.
The format is straightforward performance‑focused – musicians playing together, capturing sessions rather than interviews. It documents a segment of Belfast’s traditional music scene over seven years, from well‑known names to contemporary groups keeping the repertoire alive.
